Best for source-backed projects: SauceTab
SauceTab saves browser research into a project rather than a universal knowledge graph. Search and answers stay inside that scope and expose the original evidence. Compatible AI clients can access the selected project through SauceTab MCP.
This is useful for projects where a claim must be traceable to the page or passage that supports it. It does not replace Recall's spaced review model. Choose SauceTab when the primary output is a brief, decision, script, or deliverable. Choose Recall when the output is durable personal understanding.
Best for reading and annotation: Readwise Reader
Readwise Reader is the closer alternative when captured knowledge begins as a reading queue. It supports reading across formats, highlighting, and resurfacing. Recall can ingest and summarize many content types, but Reader devotes more of the experience to consumption and annotation.
The subscription continues after a trial, so test with a real week of reading before moving. A long feature list is less important than whether you return to the queue and use the highlights.

That breadth can consolidate systems, but it requires careful permissions. Test what an external client can read and change before placing sensitive or unrelated knowledge in one connected workspace.
Test summary quality against source recovery
Capture the same long article, video, PDF, and short web page in two products. Compare the first summary, then ask a question that depends on a detail the summary omitted. Measure how quickly you can inspect the original passage.
Also test review after a week. If spaced resurfacing changes what you remember, Recall may be doing a job that a project research tool should not try to replace.

Stay with Recall for summary-led capture, connected knowledge, and review. Pick Readwise Reader for reading, NotebookLM for a bounded notebook, Fabric for a broad workspace, or SauceTab for project research that needs visible source evidence across AI tools.
SauceTab does not currently bulk import a Recall, HTML, or CSV archive. Keep a raw backup and test an active project before considering a larger move.
