Privacy Policy

SauceTab is a research capture tool. This policy explains what we collect, why, how we use it, and the choices you have, across the SauceTab web app and the SauceTab browser extension.

The short version. We only capture a web page when you ask us to. We use your captures to power your own research workspace. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

1. Information we collect

Account information

When you create a SauceTab account, we collect your email address and a user ID, and, if you sign in with Google, your name and profile image as provided by Google. We use this to identify you and route your captures to the correct workspace.

Content you capture

When you explicitly capture a page through the extension or app, we collect the content you chose to save: the article text, full page, your selection, or your highlights, along with the page URL, title, author, publish date, thumbnail, and similar metadata. Any notes you add are stored with the capture. This content is saved to your account so you can organize, search, and reason over it.

Authentication data

To keep you signed in, the extension and app store a session token locally on your device. It is used only to authenticate your requests to SauceTab.

Billing information

If you subscribe to a paid plan, payments are processed by Stripe. We receive limited billing details (such as plan, status, and the last four digits of your card); we never receive or store your full card number.

Technical and usage data

Like most web services, our servers process standard technical data (such as IP address and request logs) to operate the service, keep it secure, and diagnose problems.

2. How the browser extension handles your data

The SauceTab extension is designed to touch your browsing as little as possible:

Each extension permission maps to this single capture purpose: activeTab and scripting read the page you choose to capture; identity signs you in; storage keeps you signed in and holds pending captures; alarms retries offline captures; contextMenus and sidePanel provide capture entry points; and clipboardWrite lets you copy a clean article or your highlights.

3. How we use your information

4. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We use a small set of trusted service providers ("sub-processors") to run SauceTab, and share only what each needs to perform its function:

ProviderPurpose
SupabaseAuthentication, database, and storage for your account and captures.
CloudflareHosting, the API backend, and file storage for captured assets.
AI model providersProcessing your captured content to generate summaries, embeddings, entities, and answers. This runs to provide features to you.
StripePayment processing for paid plans.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of SauceTab and our users.

5. Data retention

We keep your account and captures for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual captures and buckets at any time from within the app; deleting a capture removes it and its derived data (such as summaries and embeddings) from your workspace. If you close your account, we delete or de-identify your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain limited records to meet legal or accounting obligations.

6. Security

We protect your data in transit with encryption (HTTPS), scope access to your authenticated workspace, and store credentials and content with reputable infrastructure providers. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your information and to respond promptly if an issue arises.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, including the right to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any right, contact us using the details below.

8. Children

SauceTab is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
