The best Glasp alternative depends on whether highlighting is the destination or one step in a private research workflow. Choose SauceTab for project-scoped sources and source-backed AI work, Readwise Reader for a dedicated reading system, Recall for summaries and review, or Raindrop.io for general bookmark organization. Keep Glasp when browser highlighting and social discovery are central.

SauceTab publishes this guide and is included as a candidate. We reviewed official product and pricing pages on September 1, 2026. The recommendation is based on workflow, not a claim that one tool has more features in every category.

Glasp alternatives at a glance

Product Best for Main difference from Glasp Tradeoff
SauceTab Private project research across AI tools Project boundaries and inspectable evidence Not a public social highlighting network
Readwise Reader Reading and annotation Dedicated reading queue and resurfacing Paid subscription after trial
Recall Summary and review Condensed knowledge, connections, and review Less centered on inline social highlights
Raindrop.io General bookmark management Explicit collections, tags, and broad link organization Needs another layer for synthesis
Glasp Browser highlighting and discovery Web, PDF, and YouTube highlighting with community features Public and social orientation may not fit sensitive work

Glasp's pricing page listed a free plan and Pro at $12.50 per month when billed annually or $15 monthly at review time. Its MCP page describes a free server that is read-only by default. Verify current plan and permission details before connecting a private knowledge library.

Best for private project research: SauceTab

SauceTab captures sources and useful passages into a deliberate project. Retrieval happens inside that boundary, answers expose the supporting evidence, and compatible clients can use the project through SauceTab MCP.

This approach suits customer discovery, competitive research, content production, and other work where sources should remain separated by outcome. Glasp suits people who want to highlight broadly and benefit from seeing what other readers save.

Best for a reading practice: Readwise Reader

Readwise Reader is the strongest alternative when your day revolves around a reading inbox. It supports reading, annotation, and resurfacing across several source types. The experience is more private and reading-centered than Glasp's social discovery layer.

Its official pricing lists a trial followed by a paid plan. Test whether the review habit creates enough value before moving a large highlight archive.

Best for summary and review: Recall

Recall is a useful alternative when you want captured material condensed into summaries, connected within a knowledge base, and returned through review. Its pricing page lists a free entry point and paid tiers that include higher limits and integration access.

The decision is whether you trust a summary-led representation or need the exact highlighted passage close at hand. For important research claims, test how quickly each tool returns you to the original source.

Best for simple bookmark organization: Raindrop.io

Raindrop.io is a better fit if highlights are optional and the core requirement is a dependable link library. Collections, tags, and filters create explicit control. It does not try to be a social learning network.

Choose it when organization and retrieval of whole pages matter more than annotation. Pairing it with an AI tool is possible, but inspect how much manual context transfer remains.

Test privacy and source recovery

Use the same five sources in two products. Include a private competitive page, a PDF, a YouTube transcript, and a long article. Highlight one passage in each, then test whether the item is private by default, whether an AI client can read it, and whether you can open the original evidence.

Also export a small sample. A useful knowledge system should let you understand what leaves the product and what metadata is preserved.

A practical recommendation

Stay with Glasp for browser-native highlighting, social learning, and discovery. Choose Readwise Reader for a dedicated reading practice, Recall for summary review, Raindrop.io for bookmark control, or SauceTab for private project research with source receipts across AI tools.

SauceTab does not currently provide a bulk Glasp, HTML, or CSV importer. Start with an active project and keep a separate backup of existing highlights before changing systems.
